Shaving my head for Red Nose Day!

Red Nose Day 2011 was an amazing experience for all sorts of reasons – not least because I felt so privilege to be part of something so amazing – and contributing to the best Red Nose Day ever.

As well as working with my team to make sure that all of the technology ran smoothly, I also raised £1500 by offering to shave my head – I was amazed to see that so many people were interested in seeing me bald, and the money just kept rolling in.

Many thanks to those who sponsored me; here is the picture evidence for those who didn’t believe that I would do it – many thanks to Zenon Hannick for shaving it for me – in front over 100 people in the Comic Relief offices!

Tron Legacy: My movie highlight of the year!

Rarely does a film get my super excited these days, but Disney’s ‘Tron Legacy’ (follow-up to the 1982 classic ‘Tron’) has.

Not only is it a beautiful film – watching it is like having fridge-cool moisturising eye-drops on a hot day, but the soundtrack, casting and execution are superb.

The Daft Punk soundtrack is brilliant and one of the best I have ever heard for a film.

If you haven’t seen it, go and see it. And if you have, see it again!

What does 2011 have in store?

2010 seems to have gone incredibly quickly, and a lot happened – I got elected, made it through my first Comic Relief campaign and moved-up to Enfield to name just a few highlights!

However, I have a feeling that 2011 is going to be even more hectic and much, much busier; roll on the New Year!

Dr Who Christmas Special: A Christmas Carol – soundtrack for my Xmas 2010

What a wonderful Christmas this has been this year – great food, great wine and great company.

The piece de resistance for me was the beautiful song sung by Katherine Jenkins in the excellent Dr Who Christmas Special – A Christmas Carol. Absolutely lovely!

Merry Christmas!

The ecstasy, then the agony!

I rushed home from the Mayor’s Garden to run some errands and grab supplies before settling down to watch what I had expected to be a glorious England victory over the USA.

With so much talk about the special relationship, and the recent Britain versus USA discussions emanating from the BP Oil Spill disaster, I was hopeful of a resounding victory and things got off to a fantastic start with Gerrard’s superb goal in the 4th minute.

However, that was the point at which we seemed to peak – allowing the USA to come back with a tame equaliser that was only scored as the result of a shocking goalkeeping howler from Rob Green.

I will never quite understand what happened; he simply seemed to let the ball slip through this hands into the goal. Even the Americans seemed embarrassed to celebrate.

The look on his face said it all – a combination of dejection, shock, anguish and shame.

It could well become a career-defining moment, and the important thing is that it happened now, rather than in a more critical day.

I suspect that the experience of David James is suddenly looking very attractive and Capello will not sleep easily tonight wondering whether or not he made the right selections for this opening game.

That said, we mustn’t underestimate the USA; they are ranked 14th in the world (compared to England’s position at 8th) and have a number of Premiership players in their side.

However, the Press will turn on Capello quickly, and he will have a restless night thinking about what has happened and what could have happened.

For me, there are several questions for him to answer:

1. Was Green the right choice for goal?

2. Is Ledley King really ready to be playing at this level considering his injury record and lack of match fitness?

3. Was it sensible to leave Walcott at home when pace and ingenuity are of critical importance in a tournament like this?

It’s early days,  but, like many England supporters, I’m feeling subdued and nervous.

The only positives were an incredibly solid performance by Heskey, who was a commanding presence on the pitch and brilliant play from Johnson who is may Man of the Match.

Come on England – you can do better!

Classy British R’n'B from McLean

A fantastic song and a great video – and he wasn’t discovered on X Factor

I’m certain that this will be a huge hit this summer; I’ve already pre-ordered it on iTunes and cannot wait to get it on my iPod.

Interestingly, the beautiful girl in the video is Elarica Gallacher who is best known for previously being in Eastenders and Harry Potter; nice to see that McLean is keeping it real with more British talent!

When is Merlin coming back?

Come on Auntie Beeb – can we have Merlin Series 3, please?

Now that ’24′ is finished, this would be the only reason for me to switch on my TV!

“24″ is back, and better than ever!

24 Season 8 – Jack IS Back!

Cast of "24" Season 8

The Cast of "24" Season Eight - the best ever!

What a breathtaking start to what should be Jack’s last day!

He *really* doesn’t want to be there, but we’re glad that he is as this season surpasses even the last, making it the best so far. When he says “I hate this place!” we don’t doubt that he means it, but we also know that he cannot turn his back on his country.

As always, the action is matched by the depth of the character analysis; the impact of the previous events on some of the key players is clear:

Jack’s redheaded sidekick from ‘Season 7′ has clearly fallen to the dark-side and has absorbed all of Jack’s worst traits and is just bubbling with a certain buxom evilness what clearly isn’t sustainable…

Chloe’s confidence is shot to pieces and we’re left wondering if she could even put together a PowerPoint presentation, let alone decrypt data in time to save the world…

President Taylor seems to have had her moral compass re-calibrated as a result of the destruction of her family in ‘Season 7′, but is she a better leader for it as result?

CTU’s budgets have clearly gone through the roof, but they seem to have spent all the money on new technology and flashy gadgets at the expense of good personnel.

Of one thing we can be certain – even if Jack doesn’t make it to the end of this day, his return to our screens is welcome – and scintillating.

“24″ remains TV’s pièce de résistance, and seems better than ever for those who can keep up with the pace!

Why is everyone either asleep or applying their slap on the Tube?

On my journey in from Southgate this morning, I observed that more than half of the occupants of my carriage were fast asleep and that half of the rest were applying their make-up…

Personally, I wouldn’t ever dream of sleeping on the Tube for fear of someone painting some obscenity on my forehead!

(Actually, I once saw a photographer taking pictures of sleeping commuters on the Victoria Line. I didn’t stop him, as he looked like he was on official business.)

However, it does make me wonder if some people are actually building sleeping time and beauty time into their commute? If so, perhaps London Underground should make the seats a little more comfortable? Or even consider installing sleeping carriages for those who really that extra 45 minutes of REM?

I had previously assumed that these incidents were opportunistic, but having seen one woman sleep in the same seat over a period of a couple of months, I realise that these are not random occurences!

I think that the productivity gains to be had from letting people have a little power-nap on the way to work could be significant; surely there’s a piece of research waiting to be done?

As a chronic insomniac who has survived on about four hours sleep since my teens, I’m slightly envious of those who can fall asleep on command, and actually build it into their routine. A very useful skill in certain professions, I’m sure!

While I admire those who use their commuting time so effectively, I will stick to watching over my sleeping fellow passengers, in some admiration of those women who manage to apply a full face of make-up despite the bumpy ride and fascinated audience.

Not the kind of advice she was hoping for, I fear. It did make me smile, though!
