The polling stations are now open!

I woke just after 04:00 this morning – partly through excitement, and partly because Tom had arranged for us to go out and do a ‘Dawn Raid’ delivering leaflets to our supporters.

It’s an incredibly important day, and I was in high spirits as I drove across Enfield to the ENCA offices and was greeted by Simon, Tom, Nick de Bois and his lovely family.

By 06:30 we had delivered hundreds of leaflets, and I went over to the Brigadier Hill Free Church which is one of the polling stations in my ward (Chase) and I got an enormous buzz when seeing my name at the top of ballot paper.

After delivering, we grabbed tea in the cafe on Baker Street and then I drove home to cast my own votes – one for the parliamentary elections, and three for the local.

There is no doubt that this is going to be a close election nationally, but I hope that we have done enough to convince the people of Enfield that we are the right team to represent them…

We will know for sure in a few hours!

Election Fever in Enfield!

I had the great pleasure of enjoying the beautiful Spring sunshine in Enfield Town today whilst campaigning with my Conservative colleagues.

Enfield North Parliamentary Candidate Nick de Bois, Enfield Southgate MP David Burrowes and I were joined by Justine Greening – MP for Putney and Shadow Minister for London.

Justine gave a great interview to the local press at Chase Farm Hospital where she explained that May 6th was the last chance for Enfield residents to save the hospital by voting Conservative – the only way to prevent Labour’s planned downgraded of the A&E facilities there.

Afterwards, we went to Enfield Town where we spent some time outside Pearsons discussing the importance of preventing Gordon Brown’s Tax on Jobs (the government’s proposed National Insurance increase) and other ways in which a Conservative government will put in place the policies needed by Enfield’s small businesses.

I had a fascinating discussion with a lifelong Labour voter who conceded that – because he was very happy with the quality of services provided by Enfield’s Conservative Council – he would think twice before voting Labour as he doesn’t want a Labour council!

It reminded me how important this election is, and why us Enfield Conservatives are working so hard to ensure a Conservative victory on May 6th.

2010: Year for Change

Happy New Year!

2010 is an important and exciting year; it’s a year in which millions of Britons will have a chance to vote for a change of Government – both local and national.

It is an opportunity for change – a chance for people to replace a tired, exhausted government that has run out of ideas with a dynamic, vibrant one that has the solutions to Britain’s problems.

There is no doubt that this is going to be a tight election, but I will be working hard to ensure a Conservative victory – both to see the continuation of the Conservative council in Enfield, and the return of a Conservative government in Westminster.

Roll on 2010!
