It is my great pleasure to have been selected as a Council Candidate for the forthcoming Local Elections in May 2010, when I will be standing in Chase Ward in Enfield.
I am also a Deputy Chairman of the Enfield North Conservative Association, and I enjoy campaigning and canvassing, and have supported the party in a number of elections across the country.
I am a proud Conservative, because I believe passionately in the importance of individual freedom, personal responsibility, and in the need for strong communities. I value family life, and think that the family unit is the single most important institution in British life.
Five Conservative principles that are particularly important to me are:
Advancing Opportunity – creating an environment where people get the education and training that they need to be successful in their endeavours and to be economically active.
Nurturing Responsibility – encouraging people to take responsibility for their lives and the welfare of their families thereby decreasing reliance on the State and increasing social cohesion.
Creating a Smaller Government – transferring power from the centre to local communities, empowering them to take the decisions required to deliver to their needs.
Protecting our Environment – minimising the negative impact of human activity on the Earth by defending our green spaces and seeking ways to reduce pollution – both through mitigation of existing activities, and by changing the way we behave.
Increasing Security – protecting our nation and its values through better border control, and by supporting our police in their efforts to enforce the law and to reduce anti-social behaviour.
In Enfield, I am especially keen to promote the policies that will allow these principles to be supported, and I am a strong advocate for the protection of the Green Belt land in the north of our borough.
I have strong dislike for political correctness, especially when it prevents people from discussing the serious issues affecting our society today and think that politics should never come before people – it should be a tool to serve them.
It will be both my pleasure and a privilege to represent the people of Chase if I am returned as their representative.
